Board of Directors:

Brain Injury Services is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors whose perspectives and talents contribute to the strategic direction and successful operation of the agency.

The Board of Directors for 2011/2012 is:

Robert P Beres, President
Since 1988 as a sole practitioner, Robert has provided independent, objective and uncompromising services for his clients, profession, and community. As a fee only Chartered Financial Planner, Robert provides unique custom tailored services with respect to the areas of Financial, Tax, Retirement, Estate, and Business Planning. Robert’s unique approach consistently removes the complexity of understanding all your options, especially in the areas of Marriage Separation, Employment Severances, Limited Partnership Restructuring, Shareholder Agreements, Tax planning and preparation, Management Buy-Out’s, and ESOP’s. Robert’s community involvement has included the Rotary Club of Ancaster A.M. (President 1996-97), Rotary Club of Hamilton, (President 2006-2007, presently a member), Niagara College Foundation Board, (director), Ancaster Community Centre Fundraising Committee, (Chair).
Scott Paulin, Vice President
Scott graduated from McMaster University with a Honours B. Comm in 2005. He has been working as a Chartered Accountant at Taylor Leibow in Hamilton for 4 years. For the past 2 years, Scott has been primarily focused on personal injury economic loss quantification for litigation and has had the opportunity to meet and work with many individuals with brain injuries. Scott is currently working towards his Diploma in Investigative and Forensic Accounting at the University of Toronto.
Joshua Henderson, Director
Joshua is a St. Catharines personal injury lawyer and the principal lawyer of Henderson Law Firm (www.hendersonlaw.ca). Prior to becoming a personal injury lawyer, Joshua was a Professor of Law at the Southwest University of Political Science and Law in Chongqing, China. He has also worked in the operating rooms of Toronto General Hospital and with autistic children in residential settings. Joshua graduated from Osgoode Hall Law School with a Doctor of Jurisprudence and the University of Waterloo with an Honours Bachelor of Science. In his spare time Joshua enjoys playing dodgeball, golf and paintball. He also enjoys reading Russian literature.
Steve Metham, Director
Steve Metham began his career in healthcare as a behavior therapist for individuals with acquired brain injury at Chedoke-McMaster Hospitals and Hamilton Psychiatric Hospital in 1991. From 1995 to 2000 he was a Community Intervention Coordinator for the Provincial Acquired Injury Program based at Hamilton Health Sciences. In addition to a Bachelor of Commerce degree (McMaster University), Steve completed extensive studies in psychology and presented at behavioral psychology and acquired brain injury conferences across North America. After obtaining an MBA in Health Services Management from McMaster University in 2003, he returned to Hamilton Health Sciences and currently holds the position of Manager – Quality, Patient Safety and Clinical Resource Management.
Lucy Bower, Director
Lucy is a registered Social Worker who recently retired from Hamilton Health Sciences where she was a Clinical Manager for the Acquired Brain Injury Program for the past 13 years. Prior to her professional focus with Acquired Brain Injury, she also worked for many years in Geriatric Medicine and Psychiatry. Lucy has also served with the Provincial Acquired Brain Injury Advisory Committee as well as with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers.

Paul Armstrong, Director
Paul Armstrong is currently the Dean, of Community, Urban Studies and Health Sciences at Mohawk College. As part of this portfolio, Paul is responsible for all programming at Mohawk’s two Branford campus locations, the Human Services cluster of programs at the Fennell campus and the Faculty of Health Sciences including collaborative programs with McMaster University. Paul has been an educator and post-secondary administrator for the past 20 years, with his original field of education being Medical Imaging, including Radiology and Ultrasonography. Paul is a community advocate and has had leadership roles in a number of community boards over the past 20 years. He is currently Treasurer and Facilities Chair for the Grand River Community Health Centre in Brantford, Board Member, Hamilton Children’s Aid Society and formerly served as Board Chair for Umbrella Family and Child Centres of Hamilton. Paul has also dedicated the past 12 years to supporting minor sports in Hamilton as a hockey, soccer and lacrosse volunteer and coach.
Larry Rosenberg, Director

Larry is a Board Member & Past President of Shalom Village – Jewish Home for the Aged of Hamilton, a Member of Beth Jacob Synagogue and a Member of Beverly Golf & Country Club
Larry enjoys Opera, Modern Art & NFL Football and is a student of ancient Greek & mathematical philosophy. Larry is married to Jay and has a daughter Morgan
Kathryn L. LeBlanc - B Sc., M Sc.
Director, Neurosciences Program
Hamilton Health Sciences

Kathryn LeBlanc has a clinical background in Neuropsychology and has worked in the area of healthcare systems integration coordinating best practice stroke care at a regional level since the inception of the Ontario Coordinated Stroke Strategy since 1999. She led the development of the West GTA Stroke Network under the demonstration and implementation phases from 1999-2004. In 2004 she joined Hamilton Health Sciences as the Clinical Manager of a 32 bed Integrated Stroke Unit which was one of the first to be implemented in Canada. In 2007 she assumed the role of Regional Stroke Program Manager for Central South Ontario and became the Clinical Manager for the Neuroscience Ambulatory Centre at Hamilton Health Sciences, Regional Stroke Centre, which offers services in Stroke Prevention and pre and post operative neurosurgical care. At a provincial level, she Chairs the Ontario Stroke Network ( OSN) Regional Stroke Program Manager's Advisory Committee. Kathryn has assumed the role of Director Neurosciences Program at Hamilton Health Sciences in January 2011 and is responsible for acute neurology, neurosurgery, spine and stroke care and is leading developments in neuromodulation and epilepsy services at Hamilton Health Sciences.

Kathryn is a healthcare administrator and leader with 25 years of experience in program development, project management and partnership building specializing in social services and healthcare sectors. She has demonstrated expertise in the analysis and development of healthcare programs and operations in acute care, rehabilitation, ambulatory and community based healthcare settings in Atlantic Canada, Quebec and Ontario.




Any successful venture requires a well thought out plan. With contributions from staff, clients and families, the Board of Directors has reviewed and revised its strategic plan to identify new priorities and direction.
