Group Services:

Group Services strives to meet the varied social, recreational and group learning needs of all individuals served by Brain Injury Services, Haldimand-Norfolk, Niagara. Group Services provides opportunities for individuals to volunteer as a team on community projects and benefit from the camaraderie and friendships that develop during recreational pursuits.

Monthly Calendar
Each month Group Services publishes a calendar of activities, community events, learning opportunities and volunteering projects. Included are consistent activities such as: ‘Tuesday All Day Programming’, ‘Wednesday Meet & Greet in the Community’ and ‘Friday Morning BISHpets’. The calendar also includes new programs and events. clients are encouraged to join in the planning and facilitation of activities that reflect their various interests and talents.

BISHworks offers three different kinds of volunteer experiences to enhance self esteem, recovery and friendships, while developing relevant job skills and giving back to the community.

In community volunteering, a team of four to six clients, accompanied by a staff member, volunteer weekly for community organizations.

The office team lends their time and effort to administrative projects such as rolling money for charity, collating mail outs and assembling training packages for the agency as well as external businesses.

Finally, the catering crew produces meals for in-house meetings and events. clients develop skills related to food preparation, safety and presentation.

Daily Programming
The varied programs and activities that are offer ensure a secure social atmosphere for every client to join and have fun. Whether it is a drop in, a guest speaker, a card or pool tournament the activities provide opportunities for enjoyment, social skill development, physical activation, peer support, independence, creativity and learning. Every week community recreational events are organized to explore the city, participate in a sporting event or have coffee with friends.

The service is enhanced by the strong commitment and dedication of many volunteers. Each week volunteers donate their time, enthusiasm and talent to give group services’ client’s that ‘little extra’. Whether it’s BISHpets, having that extra set of hands to get more clients involved, or that great idea, volunteers are there.
